We have all dealt with the annoying build up of soap residue, or scum in a soap dish.  So, what are some hints and techniques to help keep your soap dishes looking clean?  Below are some hints and techniques that will help keep your soap dishes looking professionally clean.

Soap residue in your soap dishes is the result of moisture or water, combined with soap.  So a soap dish with a drainage spout that can sit over the edge of a sink will help reduce the amount of water and therefore buildup.  Excess water will automatically drain into the sink.  These type of soap dishes come in plastic, glass or ceramic.  Try to get one without too ridges that will block the run off of the water.

To clean your soap dish use natural cleaners so that your soap doesn’t  become contaminated with something you don’t want skin contact with.  You will probably have to do this about once a week.  Even easier is to put it in your dishwasher!

Try to see that other family members use the dish soap consistently and don’t place it on the counter, etc. because this will only increase the amount of work to keep your washroom areas clean.  If the use of hand soap and soap dishes still isn’t working for you, consider one of the many varieties of pump up hand soaps available!
